Mission
Underscored is a project endeavoring to shine a light on lesser-known works for horn by women and underrepresented minority composers. Guided by a desire for diversity and inclusion and a belief in the value of music, these pieces will be celebrated through recording and thoughtful commentary which will be made accessible to horn players around the world.
Values
- Diversity of voices and styles: the world of music encompasses an infinite number of perspectives and ideas. By intentionally highlighting a wide range of voices and styles we can make the horn world more vibrant and meaningful
- Accessibility: to bring these works into the spotlight, they must be made easily accessible to the horn community, allowing any player to learn and perform them
- Artistry: music has the power to transform, connect, and inspire. The work explored in underscored represents an enormous potential for transformative art
Miniatures for Unaccompanied Horn by Alyssa Reit
Alyssa Reit is a composer, arranger, harpist, and storyteller based in New York. Her works span a wide variety of genres, from musicals and ballets to solos like Miniatures for Unaccompanied Horn. Storytelling is intrinsic in even her non-theatrical work, and can be seen in this piece. The four miniatures are richly evocative, each unique but tied together by subtle motives and gestures.
